EDITORIAL – REVISTA ABRAFATI 101
We are reaching the end of another tough year in which the performance of both the coatings industry and the Brazilian economy fell behind expectations. It is appropriate at this time for us to discuss what happened and, in addition, to reflect upon ways of overcoming the challenges we will have to face in 2015.
The year 2014 will hardly be missed. But next year is not going to make our lives any easier either. It will take many adjustments for Brazil’s economy to get back on the path of growth and reclaim the credibility that has been somewhat lost. While the government’s new economic team and the first proposals they have announced represent positive signs, some uncertainties still persist. In any event, it can be said that these will have adverse impacts on the manufacturing sector at an early stage —and we need to be prepared for them.
On the following pages you will see analyses and forecasts concerning what the near future holds for us. The country will continue growing slowly, but the conditions can be restored for us to get back on track for sustainable growth. That is what we expect, and we need to work towards achieving that goal. We must take action together in order to find ways of improving competitiveness across the coatings supply chain, boosting technological development, and furthering sustainability —a theme that has gained utmost importance in corporate strategies, as you can see on page 6.
Working like that, we are going to face the challenges of 2015 with a refreshed heart, as we know numerous opportunities lie further ahead. In this spirit, we wish you all a merry Christmas and a 2015 of many accomplishments!
