LatinPin (Latin American Coatings Federation) Now Official
ABRAFATI had led negotiations to form the entity that will strengthen the region’s representativeness on the global stage.
Last January 24, at a meeting in Mexico City, LatinPin started operating as a federation that units manufacturers and technicians from several Latin American countries.
In the presence of representatives from Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay and Ecuador, the decisions made at previous meetings were made official, the federation’s by-laws were approved, and the choice of its officers was ratified. Javier Maldonado, of ANAFAPYT, in Mexico, was elected president, with Dilson Ferreira, of ABRAFATI, and Ignacio Bersztein, of ATIPAT in Argentina, as vice presidents.
One of the main goals of LatinPin is to improve the region’s representativeness in major global discussions relating to paints and coatings. At the same time, it will provide opportunities for developing joint initiatives, particularly those pertaining to sustainability and the dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge.
“The idea of the Latin American federation has been maturing for a while now, having been discussed on different occasions with leaderships in the other countries. At ABRAFATI 2013, the attendance of representative of several associations enabled the holding of a meeting where a consensus was reached about our need to have a common representation forum. That was when the process began which resulted in its creation,” explains ABRAFATI’s executive president Dilson Ferreira.
