2014 EDITION OF ABRAFATI AWARDS LAUNCHED
Registrations are open for the 16th edition of the ABRAFATI Coatings Science Awards. Papers are expected to be submitted on themes relating to raw materials, products, processes, equipment, analytical techniques, quality, environmental protection, and waste management, always taking sustainability into account —as it has become the main research driver in the paint and coatings supply chain over the past few years.
The awards play a key role in the evolution of Brazil’s paint and coatings supply chain by encouraging scientific research and technological development. More than 50 experts from companies of the industry and academic institutions have been recognized since the creation of the awards back in the late 1980’s, with an emphasis on studies aimed at advances in sustainability and improvements in paint properties.
The main themes for awarded papers include the use of raw materials from renewable sources, the replacement of materials that have higher toxicity levels and environmental impacts, the reuse of industrial process waste in the production of paints and coatings, innovations in industrial effluent treatment, and improvements in production efficiency (with a reduced use of process inputs).
